For the beginner, Internet marketing may be a very difficult field to start in. Competition can be daunting, and newcomers are many times not taken very seriously because there are so many of them and so many fail. The reason so many newcomers, or newbies, fail is because they lack the most important thing in the internet marketing game: a supportive mentor.

Mentors are a key element when starting out in Internet marketing for many reasons. For one thing mentors are essential in providing information to the newcomer that would have taken months upon months for the newcomer to find on his/her own. A mentor can easily see through much of the hype that can confuse a newbie, and he/she has the experience to differentiate between products or services that are worthwhile and those products or services that are nothing more than scams. Again, taking for granted that you have found a successful mentor, he/she should be able to make your journey towards internet success not only a shorter journey but a much less painful one also. Time is of the essence in internet marketing, and the time that a well rounded mentor can save a newcomer to the field allows the newcomer to get a much clearer picture of what good products and services deliver. They then can gauge new services on their own and compare them to the effectiveness of the services their mentor introduced them to since they have an adequate frame of reference on what quality marketing can be. Every bit of advice a mentor can give ultimately turns out to be invaluable to the newcomer.

Mentors also offer contacts and connections with other people in Internet marketing, people who also are successful. When one surrounds oneself with successful people it can only aid towards one's own personal success. When one makes connections with persons who are similiarly motivated towards financial success and personal freedom it is much easier to attain those goals. In perfect conditions, the newcomer would be able to become a part of the successful internet marketers community through the introduction which the mentor can provide. Being in this community not only fosters the same goals but it also aids in the newcomer maintaining focus on those goals. Also, learning from persons already successful in Internet marketing aides in the moral of the newcomer, providing direct daily proof that with adequate knowledge and effort the newcomer also can become successful..

Having established the importance of a strong well connected mentor the question now becomes how can the newcomer find such a mentor? The first step is research. It is of utmost importance to learn about the field of internet marketing long before one plunges into it. Learn the big names, learn a variety of product, learn the various techniques, and get a gauge for the field by reading about many differing points of view. Without learning about the field... picking a mentor would be about the same as walking onto a car lot and picking the very first car one sees. Once one has a rough understanding of the field, take a look at the amount of personal involvement each mentor invests in his/her clients. No matter how big their name is, they can still be a horrible mentor. Look for the mentors who are offering daily one on one guidance, those mentors who believe first in helping the individual and secondly in gaining a profit, especially in my internet business.

A successful mentor makes or breaks a newbie. The mentor can save the newcomer time, money, frustration and failure. Take time in your choice of mentor and above all get to know them in detail first.
